Recap of May's Meeting: Virtue Talk

Virtue focus: Humility

Humility is manifested in the optimism that we get from the knowledge that God will help us when we are weak.
It is important to realize self deprecation as false humility. We are truly humble when we see our true value and dignity in struggles and our proper priority in terms of duty: God- husband- children- self.

2 areas we can grow in humility through realizing our true capacity:

1) Avoiding mediocrity: As busy busy busy moms it can be tempting to let our appearances go a bit in what we wear on a daily basis. The effort and motivation to look good helps us to realize that God made us capable to do many things well. See here for Tim Gunn's Top 10 Wardrobe Essentials. One of his best suggestions is the call for all women to find a "Sweat Suit alternative."

"Sweat Suit Alternative - As mentioned before, women wear fewer skirts and dresses these days. But some women have taken casual to the extreme and spend days on end in sweat suits. It is possible to be casual and comfortable without looking like a slob. Find a comfortable material (that's why this doesn't say jeans again – denim is not as comfortable as a nice soft cotton) that you would want to wear every day. It could be khakis, cords, a cotton dress, or much more."

I find that a knit dress is the perfect answer especially in the spring/summer months. There is nothing more comfortable (and feminine) than a puller over dress.... and it makes anyone look 10 times better than wearing sweat pants. I just got this as a summer sweat suit alternative: I plan on rocking it with flip flops in a super casual way. Yes, take me seriously.

2) Acknowledging our Weaknesses:

The only way to truly know our weaknesses is if we go over them once a day. The examination of conscience is the best and most thorough way to do this. If we don;t do it how can we see where we fall short. In knowing our weaknesses we will know where we struggle and know what to ask God for help with. This will help us in our daily struggles and provide us the strength and humility to be better.
