Our first discussion from the new book was a success. Everyone had pointers and tips for every aspect of meal planning, shopping, quick fix meals and meals in a pinch. All things discussed were basically a broad overview of what the book will entail.
The first chapter specifically deals with identifying your current meal routine and seeing what changes you need to make in order to develop a well balanced and efficient meal routine. By enumerating what meals you have prepared for your family in the last 2 weeks, hopefully you can come up with 10 menus that can be set into a rotation.
Each menu (ie: dinner) should include an entree/protein, starch, vegetable, and salad/fruit. The goal of this chapter is to have you set into motion a rotation of entree and accompaniments for a one week period, avoiding the same protein more than 2-3 times a week.
Ideally:
Mon-poultry
Tues- pork
Wed- ground beef
Thurs- poultry
Fri- fish
Sat- poultry
Sun- beef
Each plated meal should also have these 4 check points. They can mnemonically be remembered by CASA: Color, Arrangement, Shape, and Aroma.
